A motion to accept September 9, 2025, meeting minutes was made by Kathy Johanik, Skip Radosevich seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer report – Carol Pufall, Town Treasurer, gave an overview of the town’s finances. Checking account is $106,011.06. Money market account is $26, 756.08. We received transportation aide of $29,000 and should be receiving Shared Revenue check soon.
Supervisor report – Skip Radosevich reported speaking with town resident Curtis Peters who was asking if the township could address getting the snowmobile trail changed/rerouted. He also reported the gas has been topped off at the garage now.
Kathy Johanik reported Randy and George fixed the riding lawnmower where a spring broke. They also put new blades on and it needed a new bracket to put the shield on they fixed. On the mower tractor last Wednesday a fuse burned out and now that is fixed. They are back to cutting road sides now. They also did a little more crack sealing with what they had done this year.
Clerk report – Clerk and Chief Inspector training for Kathy and I has now been completed as of yesterday. The phase 2 of Norvado fiber build is now set for 2026 for the rest of the township but no exact completion date has been given so far. According to their website the town of Washburn is set to be finished by January of 2026. We received a flyer from Superior Rivers Watershed Association regarding a workshop being held at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center on October 29th from 1-4 p.m. This is free to the public regarding culvert infrastructure and flood risks in the Chequamegon Region. Amanda Tutor from the School District of Ashland has contacted us asking to attend one of our upcoming meetings regarding tax implications that have been voted on for the upcoming tax season and giving an update on funds being used from the operational referendum that was passed in April 2025. We will be contacting her to hopefully attend our meeting in December.
Old business – Discussion was held regarding the resident looking to split up a parcel from the required 4.5 acres to approximately 2 to build on. The board decided upon with input from residents present that it would be in the township’s best interest to leave this parcel as is and not split up from the required 4.5 acres by Zoning.
Bayfield County sent out a letter regarding residential requirements for mailboxes – Height should be minimum 35” and no higher than 42”.
Travis Turner from Black Bear Properties contacted us regarding transferring liquor license back in his name from El Charro, who has now closed the business, and Travis will be looking into possibly reopening this space in the near future under a new name. We will be contacting him back with the next steps to keep this liquor license current.
LRIP update – Currently Bayfield County has $308,000 available in funds and Town of Eileen is #21 on the priority list right now. This is usually a 2-year cycle program with 50/50 funding. Town of Eileen has 44 miles of roads in total to maintain. Marty is currently looking into the LRIP-S program that offers 90/10 grants available but you would be competing on a state level. Currently applying for Colby Rd to get blacktopped. Highland Road was also considered but Northwoods Paving requested widening of the road and would need a culvert replacement of at least 6-8 feet before they would be able to blacktop. Approved grants are allowed 5 years to finish the project after approval to get reimbursement.
New business – Date for budget meeting will be set for November 11th at 6 p.m. with the regular township meeting to follow.
Public Input: Jodi Niemi commented about the ditches on Hwy 137 being recently cut/brushed and looking better after making some phone calls.
Approve checks and pay bills – motion made by Skip Radosevich, seconded by Kathy Johanik. Motion carried.
